As Pack 418 enhances it's website, the Cubmaster felt it was important to lay out our policies regarding the use of internet technology as it relates to our mission and and principles. A website is merely the electronic extension of our philosophy, goals, faith, and purpose. There is quite a bit of guidance online about designing scout sites, although much of it is mired in legalese, extremely vague, or otherwise contradictory to what most sites do. In an attempt to come up with standards that we feel serve the scout, the parents, and the organization, we narrowed down our tests to a few key questions/principles:

Does the site adequately protect the scout and their personal information?

Is the content appropriate and does it further the aims of scouting?

Will the site/content enhance the Pack 418 and BSA program?

As we continue to build the site and add content or functionality, we continually evaluate our choices based upon those principles above. We have also set out some basic policies and rules regarding use of the site:

  • Only the Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmaster, or other registered adult leaders authorized by the Cubmaster will be able to add or approve content on the site.
  • No contact information or last names of scouts will be published on the site.
  • Names will not be associated with any photos on the site.
  • Parents or adult leaders must consent for any of their contact information to be published.
  • The pack will only use photos when all persons in the photo have completed a release/consent form.
  • The site will not contain any chat, bulletin board, messaging, or similar communication means.
  • The site will only be used for matters related to scouting and Pack 418.

The website has a number of built in methods for controlling access and requires elevated permissions to post content. The leadership of the pack will constantly monitor our online presence and make any changes necessary to maintain the site. There is a release/consent form attached to this post. If you have any issues with the site, or while using it, please contact a Adult Leader immediately. Please report any material or photos that you do not feel should be on the site.  You may revoke your consent to participate at any time, or on a case by case basis as you deem necessary.

We hope that you enjoy the site and that it fulfills our expectations of more efficient communication, better troop spirit, and value in recruiting new scouts and leaders.
