I would like to take a moment to thank all the adult leaders and parents who volunteer their time and talents. Without everyone’s help the pack would not be where it is today. There was a time were Pack 418 had no active Pack Committee and the Cubmaster did all the work. For the past two years we have had a fully staffed committee. This has enabled the Cubmaster to focus on putting together a fun and exciting program for the boys. Having a full committee means the pack is more organized and the work load is spread out over many individuals which means no one person is overburdened. Our pack is always in a state of change, as new cubs come in and the older Webelos cross over into Boy Scouts. As the older Webelos cycle into Boy Scouts we lose their parents that have volunteered at the Cub level. This is going to happen next year as many of the Webelos 2 parents are on the Pack Committee. This brings about a great opportunity for one to step into service to help the pack grow and maintain a fun and exciting program for the boys. The advantage this time around is that we have a great commitee in place, the positions are fully defined and taking over a position will be relatively easy with the help of the existing committee member. Our advice is not to wait till the position is open, step up now and you will have a resource to learn the job. In closing I would like to say that being the Pack Committee Chairperson for the past two years has been a fun and rewarding experience. I have been able to help in my small way to help the Pack grow and put on an excellent program for our young boys. The times that I have been able to watch my son and other scouts grow and learn new things are unparallel. Larry MinorPack 418 Committee Chairperson |

Welcome to Pack 418! Have you thought of becoming a commitee member? If you’re new to the program, and interested in helping out the Pack as the next Membership Chair, please view the attached notes document that breaks down the general duties of the Membership Chair for Pack 418. In general, the Pack maintains an active recruiting program centered around Fall and Spring Cub Round-ups with several bring a buddy activities throughout the year. It is important that we keep membership up for the Pack. Another special event that the Membership Chair assists the Cub Master and Committee Chair with is the annual Charter Renewal. Both tasks are quick to be learned, occur seasonally and are key to the successful growth of a Pack. The Membership Chair position is held by an adult leader registered with the Pack. The time commitment is low compared to other committee positions, but tends to get busy during recruitment seasons in the Fall and Spring. This is a job that I find to be rewarding on a number of levels. One that comes to mind is that quite often I have been the first person that boys and parents get to meet when joining a Pack. If you enjoy meeting new people and aren’t afraid to share the virtues of scouting with others, this job is for you. Check to see if the position is available. As the membership Chair you get to experience the enthusiasm of new members, boys and their parents, as they become advocates of the Boy Scouts of America and the benefactors of a strong, fun, thrilling and engaging Pack, chartered by Durham Elementary School in the Wapiti District of the Cascade Pacific Council. No matter what position you amy be thinking about filling while your son is in the Pack, don’t hesitate to ask for help. There are plenty of us veterans around that can assist or point you in the right direction as the Pack grows. Many thanks for your participation and support. - Michael Rudis, Eagle Scout, Pack #418 Membership Chair 2007-2009

As advancement chairperson, I work with the Den Leaders on a monthly basis during the school year and over the summer to track activities of the scouts and maintain a data base of awards earned. The Pack generally tries to keep current with scout awards at each monthly Pack meeting during the school year. In order to prepare for a Pack meeting, we generally need to have an updated list of awards/advancements about one week before the Pack meeting. When the list is as current as we think it can be, a shopping list is generated as well as individual cards for each scout showing what awards have been earned. The awards are purchased at Portlands NorWest Scout Shop at 2145 SW Naito Parkway. The award cards and awards are packaged for each scout by den and ready to go the night of the pack meeting. I'm always amazed at the number of activitres and projects the kids accomplish consistently over the course of the year. I't's rewarding to help them feel a sense of satisfaction and pride in their efforts. As our current committee members move forward with their kid's into Boy Scouts, I look forward to working with our new advancement committee members to help make the transition as easy as possible. Have a great summer - Dick Kirschbaum Pack 418 Advancement Chair |

We are starting up a new uniform bank for used uniforms. At our next meeting, please bring items you may want to contribute to the bank. The process is simple, you contact me if you need something and I bring it to the next pack meeting. We will most likely put together an inventory of items in the attach document.
